With the new round of Champions League Fantasy approaching we take a look at the best budget players for Matchday 8. Using stats, team form, and other important factors we find some of the cheapest players in the game.
Finding the best budget players for Matchday 8 can be really important for UCL managers as we advance through the competition. Cheap players help enabler money elsewhere within our squads. This means we have a better chance of fitting the pricier options within out teams.
Frederik Aursnes
Benfica are one of the best teams to invest in for budget players this season. The Portuguese side have won eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions and comfortably won their first leg match against Club Brugge 2-0.
They face the Belgian team again in Matchday 8 but this time at home. Frederik Aursnes comes in at just €4.8m which is one of the cheapest price-tags in the game for a midfielder. He plays predominantly in central midfield but loves to get forward on the left wing, finding himself in some of the most advance positions on the pitch.
Aursnes picked up seven points in Matchday 7 after claiming the player of the match award. The Norwegian has picked up one goal and two assists in the league this season, so there is potential there. With a great fixture next and taking up some fantastic positioning, Aursnes is one of the cheapest ways into the Benfica attack.
Joao Mario
Benfica have racked up 23 goals in their last 10 matches in all competitions. The Portuguese side look fantastic going forward and one of the biggest contributors towards that is Joao Mario (€6.3m). The winger has been in fine form all season.
In his last 10 matches Mario picked up a whopping eight goals and two assists reflecting premium form. Not only is he having a great league campaign but he has also been impressive in the Champions League, hitting two double digit-hauls and returning in five of his seven UCL matches so far.
Mario could seem like an obvious move and many will be questioning why he makes this addition because of that. However, the penalty taking winger has 9% ownership in the game, meaning 91% of managers do not own him.
Alexander Bah
Staying with Benfica as they continue to pour out cheap budget players we head into their backline. In their last 10 matches in all competitions they managed to keep a huge seven clean sheets. This indicates investing in their defence a top priority.
Whilst many back the likes of Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.3m) and Nicolas Otamendi (€4.7m), some could go even cheaper with Alexander Bah (€4.5m). The right back has become a main-stay in the Benfica defence and has picked up two back-to-back nine point returns in the last two games.
Khvicha Kavaratskhelia
Napoli are also in fantastic form this season as they sit well at the top of the Italian domestic league. In their last 10 matches they won a huge eight times, losing just twice. In that same period they also banked 23 goals, averaging 2.3 goals per game.
Three quarters of UCL Fantasy managers are still without Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€5.9m). The Georgian midfielder has bagged 10 goals and nine assists already this season. Kvaratskhelia has also returned in four of his six Champions League matches including two back-to-back double-digit hauls in Matchday 3 and 4.
Taking penalties and being one half of Napoli’s deadly duo means that not only is he a great budget option but he is an absolute must in every fantasy team moving forward.
