Liverpool
Liverpool’s torrid run seems to be improving as of late. Although they have won just four of their last 10 matches in all competitions, two of those wins came in their last two matches. Offensively amongst all teams in their last six matches they rank amongst the best eight teams for attempts on goal (87), attempts in the box (58) and big chances total (15).
Defensively, its been a tough run for Liverpool. In their last six matches they rank second worst for big chances conceded (20) and amongst the worst 10 teams for goals conceded (nine), shots in the box conceded (53) and shots on target conceded (27). It is worth noting that Liverpool have kept two back-to-back clean sheets in their last two games.
The opposition – Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace are also in a grim run of form. In their last 10 matches in all competitions they have won one, lost five and drawn four. Offensively amongst all teams in the last six matches they rank the sixth worst for goal scored (four), the worst for big chances total (five). Crystal Palace are reflecting some very poor stats overall, although their defence is significantly worse than their attack.
Wolves
Wolves have struggled to maintain consistency all season. In their last 10 matches in all competitions they have won three, lost five and drawn two. Offensively in the last six matches amongst all teams they rank the joint sixth worst for big chances total (seven) and the fourth worst for shots on target (18). Their other attacking data points sit around mid-table.
Defensively in their last six matches they rank in the best eight teams for goals conceded (six), shots on target conceded (17) and big chances conceded (10). This shows that their defence are much more capable than their attack.
The best Liverpool attackers
When comparing the Liverpool attackers in their last six matches in terms of expected goal involvement, striker Darwin Nunez (£8.7m) leads the way (2.84). Not far behind him is midfielder Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) who sits second (2.60), with midfielder Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) in third (2.38).
There are other things worth considering though. The return of striker Diogo Jota (£8.8m) could have a significant impact of minutes in the front line. There is also concern over the fitness of Darwin Nunez who picked up a shoulder injury in his latest league match.
Mohamed Salah is the standout option in the Liverpool frontline. Not only does he take penalties but he is also Liverpool’s most nailed attacker in terms of minutes. If Darwin Nunez is confirmed ready, then he is also a fantastic option.
The best Liverpool defenders
The Liverpool defenders all have a very similar chance of keeping a clean sheet so it could be beneficial to compare their offensive qualities. In the last six matches in terms of expected goal involvement Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.3m) leads the way in first place (1.59). Fellow full-back Andrew Robertson (6.8m) sits second place (1.29).
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the standout option in defence. However if tight for budget then Andrew Robertson is also a brilliant option.
Who are the three best Liverpool picks?
Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the best two options. The third best option could be Andrew Robertson. However, If Darwin Nunez is fit to start then he could edge Robertson.
