Gameweek 25 best wildcard

Last modified date

Looking at the Gameweek 25 best wildcard team. Using the Fantasy Football Scout season ticker we can see which teams have the best run of fixtures. This can then aid FPL managers in picking out some of the best assets for the run ahead.

The wildcard gives managers the opportunity to change their entire team for any reason. Managers activate their wildcards for several reasons. Whether that be to target fixture swings or just change their team up, the wildcard can be precious to our planning.

Fixture ticker

We can see from the ticker below, the teams at the top have the easiest fixtures, whilst the teams at the bottom have the toughest fixtures up to Gameweek 30 (a six match period).

Who has the best fixtures?

Arsenal, Wolves, Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham all rank amongst the top five teams with the easiest fixtures.

Who has the worst fixtures?

Newcastle, Manchester United, Bournemouth, Fulham and Leeds all rank amongst the bottom five teams with the worst fixtures.

The best wildcard team

Goalkeepers

Other than their match against Tottenham, Chelsea have some fantastic fixtures coming up. Although they have had some recent slip ups, their underlying defensive data has improved as of late so it could be worth sticking with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.7m).

Leicester’s Danny Ward (£4m) sits on the bench ready to come in for Kepa in the unlikely event he fails to feature.

Defenders

Wolves sit second on the fixture ticker with a double Gameweek ahead. Whilst their attacking line is less than convincing it could be worth investing in their defence. Centre back Craig Dawson (£4.8m) seems nailed in terms of minutes and also has the second highest expected goals this season amongst his defensive teammates. His recent goal in Gameweek 22 reflects his threat going forward.

Liverpool have a double Gameweek ahead so it could be worth looking at their most offensive defender. As well as clean sheet potential against two poor attacks (Wolves and Crystal Palace) Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.3m) also has huge attacking threat. Amongst all defenders he ranks second for crosses (157), second for successful crosses (43), second for chances created (41) and second for big chances created (14).

Everton also have a double Gameweek in the round ahead. Similar to Wolves they lack offensive capability and options so their defence looks like the best place to go. Not only does centre back James Tarkowski (£4.3m) lead his defensive teammates for expected goal involvement but he also ranks amongst the eight best defenders in the league for it.

Newcastle do not have a fixture this week but they have the best defence in the league. Not only that but they also house one of the best assets in the game, Kieran Trippier (£6.1m). He dominates most of the distribution stats amongst all defenders in the game and will be rotated back in in Gameweek 26.

The serious lack of defensive options in the game moving forward has provided an opportunity for full back Pervis Estupinan (£4.7m). The full back has managed to hit five assists in his last 10 matches in all competitions.

Midfielders

Arsenal continue to challenge for the Premier League title and one of the biggest contributors to their league position is Bukayo Saka (£8.4m). The penalty taker has returned in five of his last six matches and is an absolute shoe-in for the double Gameweek ahead.

No team in the league has had more attempts on goal than Arsenal in their last six matches (124) or attempts in the box (83) so it could be a good idea to include Martin Ødegaard (£7m). The Norwegian has banked six double-digit hauls already this season, reflecting serious explosiveness in FPL.

Liverpool seem to be securing positive results lately and with a double Gameweek ahead it could be time for Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) to return to our fantasy teams. The Egyptian takes his teams penalties and will be a serious contender for the captaincy armband.

Fulham’s Andreas Pereira (£4.4m) sits as one of the best enablers in the game. He has proved to be a fantastic option off the bench and if teammate Aleksander Mitrovic (£6.9m) is still out injured, should be on penalty taking duty.

Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) is in the form of his life. No player has scored more goals (eight) or had more attempts on goal (29) in the last six matches. He will sit comfortably on the bench until his next fixture in Gameweek 26.

Forwards

Manchester City still dominate the majority of the attacking stats this season and the main contributor to that is Erling Haaland (£12.2m) His relentlessness in the Premier League means there is no way he can be excluded from any team moving forward.

Arsenal face two poor defensive units in their double Gameweek. Sticking with the Arsenal attacking trio could be hugely beneficial. Eddie Nketiah (£6.8m) may be on borrowed time but amongst all forwards in the league he ranks second for attempts on goal (25), first for attempts in the box (24) and second for big chances total (nine) in the last six matches.

Leeds have one of the cheapest playing strikers in the game. Wilfried Gnonto (£5m) helps enable the pricier options within the squad. It also helps that Gnonto can rotate in and out of the squad for the next several weeks.
