Who played well in FPL Gameweek 23
We take a look at who played well in FPL Gameweek 23. With a focus on the live matches played so far, we highlight some of the standout performances of the current round, whether they returned in Fantasy Premier League or not.
Underlying stats will always be very useful for FPL managers in their chase for success. However, looking at who played well in FPL Gameweek 23 could be a huge factor when looking at potential FPL assets to bring into our fantasy teams moving forward.
Joao Felix
Chelsea came into Gameweek 23 with one thing in their mind, to get a win under their belts. They started really well but failed to maintain it through the game and they were punished for it, drawing 1-1 against strugglers West Ham.
The player of the match was without a doubt Joao Felix (£7.5m). The striker was fantastic throughout the game and was Chelsea’s biggest threat. Felix linked up play brilliantly whilst also creating chances that led to shots on goal. If that wasn’t enough the Portuguese international also managed to score a goal hitting a fine nine points in FPL.
Reece James
Chelsea were stable for some parts of the game but as the match drew closer to the end things didn’t look good defensively. Although they conceded, Chelsea did have one defender who looked a real threat going forward.
Reece James (£5.7) may have suffered a long term injury recently but you couldn’t tell. James was limited in a back four but still looked exciting offensively. He was creating chances, looked comfortable on the ball and was always looking to get forward. It may be only a matter of time before we see James in FPL teams again.
Hamed Traore
Newcastle lay ahead for Bournemouth in Gameweek 23. It was a tough test for the Cherries as they struggle to maintain a positive run of form. They gave plenty of fight and ultimately stopped Newcastle with a 1-1 draw.
There were plenty of top performances in the Bournemouth side but Hamad Traore (£4.5m) shined. The Ivorian made some defence splitting passes, completed most of his dribble attempts and created a huge five key passes which led to shots. Unfortunately Traore failed to convert his performance into FPL points picking up just two.
Kieran Trippier
Newcastle came up against a Bournemouth struggling to maintain form this week. Although they conceded one player wasn’t short of his usual quality, the same quality he has shown right through the season.
Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) continued his run of top performances. The full back had plenty of defending to do, winning half of his duals and making a clearance off his line to prevent a Bournemouth goal. Not only that but Trippier maintained his fantastic distribution stats with three key passes that led to shots. Although great overall he failed to return any significant points in FPL.
