Which players are due a goal in Gameweek 20?

Last modified date

Picking out the players that look likely to score in an FPL gameweek is a big part of management. Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due a goal in Gameweek 20.

Recent FPL goals

Some attackers are in great form over their last four matches:

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product. So let’s look at the players who have met the following criteria over their last four league appearances:

  • No more than one goal
  • At least eight shots
  • At least two big chances
  • An expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00
  • An expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20

Due a goal in Gameweek 20

This is being published before the final match of Double Gameweek 19, which pairs Fulham with Chelsea. What keeps Darwin Nunez off this list are his two pre-World Cup goals of Gameweek 16. In the three matches since, he’s had a staggering 16 attempts, seven big chances and an xG of 2.67.

Team-mate Mohamed Salah has only netted once in the previous four but owners will feel unlucky that they weren’t able to further punish those that chose the Kevin De Bruyne path.

Both Anthony Martial and Rodri have a Double Gameweek 20 on the horizon, although it’s a surprise to see the latter appear here. What could threaten injury-prone Martial is his time management, especially if Wout Weghorst really does join.

Meanwhile, Che Adams may have underlying stats and promising fixtures but Southampton have just lost to Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Brighton. They are in freefall and FPL assets should probably be avoided.

Things look better for Ollie Watkins, though. He seems to be Unai Emery’s preferred forward at Aston Villa, who are about to face Leeds (H), Southampton (a) and Leicester (H).
