The best captain in Gameweek 18

Last modified date

We find the best captain in Gameweek 18. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful. Picking out the best however, can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

The options – Erling Haaland

Manchester City rank second on the fixture ticker with a meeting against strugglers Everton in Gameweek 18. Motivation is rife as they chase down Arsenal for top spot. Man City continue to impress this season Amongst all teams in the league they rank first for chances created, goals scored, goal attempts, big chances created and joint first for shots on target.

Everton are struggling to maintain any sort of consistency this season. Amongst all teams in the league they rank the worst for shots in the box conceded, total attempts conceded and the fourth worst for shots on target conceded.

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) became the quickest player to reach 20 goals under Pep Guardiola in Gameweek 17. The striker has been relentless in front of goal. Amongst all players in the league he ranks first for goals scored, shots in the box, and big chances total.

Aleksander Mitrovic

Fulham’s impressive return to the Premier League continues. Amongst all teams they rank in the top eight teams for goals scored, attempts on goal, attempts in the box and shots on target. The newly promoted side sit fourth on the fixture ticker with a meeting against Southampton.

The Saints inconsistency continues to dampen their season. Southampton have now conceded three goals in three games on the bounce. Amongst all teams they rank the third worst for goals conceded and the sixth worst for big chances conceded. Other than that, their defensive stats rank around mid-table.

Aleksander Mitrovic (£6.9m) has been a massive contributing factor towards Fulham’s campaign. The striker has already bagged 10 goals and one assist this season and his stats are even more impressive. Amongst all players in the league, Mitrovic ranks first for attempts on goal, second for attempts in the box and first for headed attempts on goal.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool are getting back to their best offensively which is reflected in their underlying stats. Amongst all teams in the league they rank second for goal attempts, first for attempts in the box, second for big chances total and joint first for shots on target.

Leicester lay ahead for the Reds. The Foxes rank amongst the worst eight teams for goals conceded, shots conceded, shots on target conceded and headed attempts conceded. Leicester have also conceded two or more goals in a huge seven matches this season.

Mohamed Salah (12.8m) is showing clear signs of improvement after a slow start to the season. In fact, amongst all players in the last six matches, Salah ranks first for penalty area touches, joint first for attempts on goal and second for attempts in the box.

Conclusion

Aleksander Mitrovic’s form is fantastic but Fulham aren’t sustaining the attacking numbers that Liverpool and Manchester City are. Mohamed Salah’s increasing form and FPL output should be considered moving forward and could even rival Erling Halaand. However, the latter’s relentless form throughout the season has to be considered and gives him the edge over Salah. Erling Haaland is again, the standout captaincy option for Gameweek 18.
