Who played well in FPL Gameweek 16?

Last modified date

We answer the question, who played well in FPL Gameweek 16? We identify some key FPL assets that looked impressive in their eighth fixture of the season. With a focus on Saturdays matches that were shown live on Sky Sports and BT Sports.

Underlying stats will always be very useful for FPL managers in their chase for success. However, using the eye test has always been a huge factor when looking at potential FPL assets to bring into our fantasy teams.

Phil Foden

Man City really struggled to break their Gameweek 16 opponents Brentford down this week. That was shown in the end result where they lost for the first time at home this season 2-1. However, even though they lost, one player did stand out above the rest.

Phil Foden was fantastic. The Man City attacker was always looking to beat his man and split the opponent’s defence at every opportunity he had. Not only was Foden creative but he also looked like the most promising goal threat. This was reflected in his final FPL return as he collected nine points for his goal and bonus points.

Ivan Toney

Brentford shocked football fans with their 2-1 win away from home. Defensively they were close to perfect. However, it was their offensive ability that produced the shock victory. It was none other than striker Ivan Toney that put Man City to the sword.

Toney didn’t see as much of the ball as he would have liked, but that always seems to be the case for anyone who comes up against Man City. Although that was the case, Toney was strong, quick, held the ball up very well and was clinical in front of goal when he needed to be. His excellent overall performance led to him returning a whopping 13 points in Gameweek 16.

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle have maintained some of the best defensive stats in the league this season. This has led to their fantastically sustained start to the season. One of the players they have brought in is defender Kieran Trippier (£5.9m).

Trippier sits as the highest scoring defender in the game. He faced a match against Chelsea in Gameweek 16. The defender was great overall. Defensively he was in top form but offensively he was ever present. Trippier’s creative ability really did shine through this week, crossing and trying to create at every opportunity. Although he failed to create an assist, Trippier still came away with a clean sheet and two bonus points.

Miguel Almiron

Chelsea really struggled to contain Newcastle for most parts of the match. One of the reasons for that was (Miguel Almiron £5.8m). The midfielder is now the highest scoring player in his position after a wonderful start to the season.

Almiron was a menace. His pace caused serious issues at times. As well as pressing hard the attacker was always running the lines and always seeking a way past the Chelsea backline. His hard work and speed were rewarded as he picked up an assist to give his owners six points.
