Who played well in FPL Gameweek 13?
We answer the question, who played well in FPL Gameweek 13? We identify some key FPL assets that looked impressive in their eighth fixture of the season. With a focus on Saturdays matches that were shown live on Sky Sports and BT Sports.
Underlying stats will always be very useful for FPL managers in their chase for success. However, eye test has always been a huge factor when looking at potential FPL assets to bring into our fantasy teams.
Dean Henderson
Nottingham Forest came into Gameweek 13 as one of the worst defences in the league. The newly promoted side were huge under dogs as they faced a mammoth task against Liverpool. To the shock of many, Nottingham Forest came out as 1-0 winners.
One of the biggest reasons for that win was Dean Henderson (£4.7m). The goalkeeper performed as well as he could. Saving everything that came at him, the man between the sticks racked up a whopping six saves from inside the box. His performance was rewarded as he came away with an 11-point FPL return.
Taiwo Awoniyi
We have already seen that Nottingham Forest claimed a heroic victory against the mighty Liverpool. A large contributor to that win was striker Taiwo Awoniyi (£5.7m). The new signing was fantastic overall. He held up play, made himself available on the counterattack and made some fantastic offensive runs.
Awoniyi’s overall performance was rewarded by FPL points. His goal and bonus meant the forward picked up a cool nine points in Gameweek 13. With mixed fixtures up until the World Cup, it is likely FPL managers avoid investing in him.
Virgil Van Dijk
Liverpool have really struggled to maintain any sort of consistency this season. Thier lack of clean sheets have made their defensive assets very hard to invest in for FPL managers. These inconsistencies were once again seen in Gameweek 13.
Although Liverpool lost the game, it was not for a lack of trying. The Reds had their chances but failed to convert them. One of those players to have chances was Liverpool centre back Virgil Van Dijk (£6.4m). In fact, Van Dijk had two big chances to score. He was absolutely dominant aerially, especially offensively. Although that was the case, Van Dijk came up short and returned just two points in FPL.
Antony
Man United faced a challenge in Gameweek 13. Although the Reds were unbeaten in four coming into this, they faced a Chelsea side that had kept five consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. The match was, as expected, tightly contested.
One player who did stand out was Man United midfielder Antony (£7.6m). The Brazilian was always looking to stretch the defence, always looking to take on his man and always looking to cause a threat. The winger created three key passes and even had a great chance to score. Although very good, Antony failed to covert that top attacking performance into FPL points. With some great fixtures ahead, Antony could well be brought in my interested managers.
