Klopp suggests he will use squad players versus Southampton on Tuesday

As discussed in Sunday’s examination of the FA Cup final, it appears that Jurgen Klopp will indeed rotate in midweek. The Athletic reports that the physical demands of a 120-minute Wembley cup final will lead to changes at Southampton.

“I have to make a lot of decisions. What I can promise is we will line up a team only for one reason: to try to win the game at Southampton. We have to see who is able to help. The 30 extra minutes (at Wembley) made a big difference.”

If it wasn’t for Man City’s dropped points at West Ham, perhaps Klopp would rotate even more considering the upcoming Champions League final. But he will still go fairly strong at the Saints.

Fabinho (hamstring) is out, with Mohamed Salah (groin) and Virgil van Dijk (knee) doubtful. Therefore, names like Joel Matip, Kostas Tsimikas, Joe Gomez, James Milner, Curtis Jones and Roberto Firmino are in contention to start. So Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are also at risk.

The presence of Firmino won’t comfort the FPL managers punting on Diogo Jota or Luis Diaz because – even without Salah – there are still four players competing for three spots.

Schmeichel expected to return in goal for Leicester’s final two matches

Over 31% of the top 100k own Kasper Schmeichel and were shocked by his resting at Watford. The inclusion of Danny Ward ended Schmeichel’s streak of 149 consecutive league starts.

Brendan Rodgers has explained that it was “not healthy” how Ward still hadn’t started a league game during his four years at Leicester.

“When we came out of Europe and I saw we had five games to play, I had spoken to Kasper that I would play him in three of those and play Wardy in two. Wardy was supposed to play today [Sunday] and against Norwich, but he felt his knee for the Wednesday game, so we didn’t want to expose him.

“I’ve always said it, I think I have two number ones here. Danny Ward, you see his presence and some of the saves he makes. I rate him highly and I have felt for him because of Kasper’s level. Up until this point, we have had something to play for. This is the first period where I could change it around. I felt he was deserving of that chance.”

Although Rodgers mentions a second appearance, the Leicester Mercury believes Schmeichel will return for the Foxes’ final two matches. They close the season with meetings against Chelsea (a) and Southampton (H).
