Best picks from Leicester for Double Gameweek 37

Last modified date

Leicester play twice in Double Gameweek 37. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Watford and Chelsea.

With their Europa Conference League adventure ended by Roma at the semi-final stage, Leicester made it five league games without a win by losing at home to Everton.

Yet this was corrected with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Norwich on Wednesday. In came a clean sheet for the many Kasper Schmeichel owners, with Jamie Vardy scoring twice on only his second start since Gameweek 20. Additionally, having sat on the bench for three of their previous five league games, James Maddison started and scored.

Perhaps Leicester’s season is filtering out but they haven’t totally downed tools yet. Just the first trip to Watford alone makes their assets intriguing for Double Gameweek 37.

Underlying Stats

Defensively, Leicester have been one of the worst when it comes to conceding shots and expected goals (xGC). Only Watford and Leeds have kept fewer clean sheets this season and their xGC of 65.98 suggests they should actually be conceding goals a lot more often.

As discussed in our ‘What to do with James Maddison?’ article, the attacking midfielder seems to be playing wider over recent Gameweeks but only four players have created more chances since Gameweek 29.

Yet his six shots inside the box and 22 penalty area touches rank lower in this period.

Ownership for Double Gameweek

Using the top 10k data at LiveFPL, we can see the popularity of Leicester players for Gameweek 36.

Kasper Schmeichel is prominent in goal purely due to the number of fixtures and the fact he’s played every minute of this season. The cheapness of Daniel Amartey is boosted by the bonus that he actually gets games. Similarly, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is super cheap, although he also has a recent goal and assist versus Crystal Palace.

Exciting winger Harvey Barnes would be a lot more popular if there was security over his minutes. Two assists arrived on Wednesday night but just 248 minutes have been played over the last seven league matches.

Interestingly, Jamie Vardy is now back. What immediately holds him back is his premium price tag and easing into on-pitch playing time. Despite this, managers planning an imminent Free Hit could do far worse than punt on this proven FPL goal scorer.

Meanwhile, Andy (Let’s Talk FPL) is getting excited for including Jamie Vardy in his Free Hit.
