The best players with one match during Double Gameweek 37
Just two opportunities remain for FPL managers to activate a Free Hit. If used for Double Gameweek 37, here are the best one-match players.
In December, it was announced that all FPL managers would be given an extra Free Hit chip to cope with the unprecedented number of Covid postponements. It altered the chip strategy of many, allowing them to ride the winter wave and keep two Free Hits for the latter stages.
According to LiveFPL’s Gameweek 36 post-deadline data, 4,248 of the top 10k still have a Free Hit to use. 5.96 million overall. Therefore, with the next round including Double Gameweeks for five less-chosen sides, Gameweek 37 seems a good time for activation.
Yet it’s easy to be blinded by those playing twice and overlooking those with one strong match. So below are the best options from single Gameweek players.
Single Gameweek 37
Firstly, let’s not include the obvious names – premium, top-scoring assets like Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and the defenders of both Liverpool and Man City.
Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal, £5.6m)
The most-bought player for Gameweek 36, Arsenal have been rewarded for handing Eddie Nketiah his first five league starts of the season. Two goals came against Chelsea, with two more on Sunday versus Leeds. Surely he’s got the shirt for the final two weeks, as Arsenal look to secure fourth place and Champions League football. They’ll visit Newcastle, fresh off a 5-0 defeat at Man City. Team mate Bukayo Saka is also a strong option.
Raphinha (Leeds, £6.3m)
A great first half of the season has been followed by just two goals from 16 matches for Raphinha. Leeds have dropped into the relegation zone at the worst time and will be desperate to defeat Brighton. They’ll be relying on the man who had executed the league’s fifth-most goal attempts up to Gameweek 32.
Leandro Trossard (Brighton, £5.8m)
Facing him will be the man near the top in FPL’s form guide. Owned by just 1.7% of overall managers, Leandro Trossard has four goals, three assists and 51 points from his last five outings. Putting an in-form attacker against one of the league’s worst defences has to be considered, regardless of it being a single Gameweek.
Raheem Sterling (Man City, £10.5m)
As discussed in our article on players versus upcoming opponents, Raheem Sterling adores visiting West Ham. From his nine trips to east London, he has five goals, eight assists and four double-digit hauls. This includes a hat-trick on the opening weekend of the 2019/20 season. Having just netted twice against Newcastle, the main thing holding him back from Free Hits is the high, restrictive price tag.
Mason Mount (Chelsea, £7.7m)
There are two ways to interpret Mason Mount’s non-appearance from Saturday. Firstly, he isn’t guaranteed game time and is part of Thomas Tuchel’s rotation plans. Secondly, he’s already had his rare rest and should start against a Leicester side letting their season drift to its end.
Jose Sa (Wolves, £5.2m)
Finally, Wolves host a Norwich side that has lost their last three matches without scoring. Over the season, Jose Sa is the highest-scoring FPL goalkeeper below £6.0m.
