Is the best to come for Harry Kane’s season?

Last modified date

Chris Hindle from FPL Updates&Tips has taken an in-depth look at Harry Kane. He ponders with Kane, who has had a season of two halves, has a grand finale to come during the run-in.

To use a football cliche, season 2021/22 has been a game of two halves for Harry Kane. Gameweek 1 to 17 saw the Spurs and England hitman deliver a paltry 1 goal, 1 assist and just 33 FPL points.  Such a return would’ve been disappointing for a £6m FPL asset, let alone a premium striker costing double that.

New Manager Bounce?

Antonio Conte’s arrival did though seemingly boost Kane’s morale along with his output.  Between Gameweeks 17 and 34 he’s recorded a far impressive 11 goals, 9 assists and 117 FPL points. Those figures are far more befitting of a player with a stellar FPL pedigree.

There has been a complete disparity between his first half and second half performances this season. So what can we now expect from him during his last five matches of the season?  Especially given Kane (and Spurs) have failed to record a single shot on target during their last two matches.

Upcoming Fixtures

Past behaviour is often the best indicator of future behaviour and in Harry Kane’s case this should give his owners a high degree of confidence.  Kane’s record against the five teams he is due to face is nothing short of awesome, whichever way you slice and dice it.

Taken as a whole, he’s faced his Gameweek 35-38 opponents on 57 occasions – in doing so he’s recorded 48 goals and 11 assists.  That’s some return!

Even if you break it down by opponent, Kane’s record against all of his upcoming opponents is very good.  Gameweek 35 opponents Leicester have faced Kane 13 times in the league and he’s scored 16 goals and has three assists against them.

He’s faced Gameweek 36 opponents Liverpool 13 times in the league. Scoring 7 goals and 2 assists in those matches. His other opponents in Gameweek 36 are Arsenal. The Gunners have also faced him 13 times in the league and Kane’s recorded 11 goals and 2 assists against his North London rivals.

Kane’s record versus Gameweek 37 opponents Burnley reads 14 league games played, nine goals scored and three assists.  Spurs face Norwich on the final day of the season and Kane’s managed five goals and one assist versus the Canaries in just four matches.

In summary, Kane loves playing against each of every one of his remaining opponents!

Is the best yet to come?

So there you have it. In all likelihood the last two matches have very probably been a blip in form for both Spurs and Kane.

Conspiracy theorists might suggest that his drop off in form has coincided with Man City seemingly tying up the Erling Haaland deal. This would put pay once more to a potential move away from Spurs for Kane.  I wouldn’t be so sure of this though.

Based on his numbers versus those upcoming opponents, it seems entirely possible that the final five games of the season will see Kane deliver FPL points in spades for those that put their faith in the Spurs hitman.

With his FPL ownership being <23% at the time of writing he could be a powerful pick (and captaincy choice) for the season run-in. We shall see!
