Best picks from the single Gameweek teams

Last modified date

FPL managers will spent a lot of this week scouting the players who play twice in Double Gameweek 33. However there are a few Single Gameweek teams who managers should not overlook as their transfers in this week. We assess who are the best picks from the single Gameweek teams for Double Gameweek 33.

Double Gameweeks always create a storm in the FPL community. Managers worry about what chip they should play, if they have enough Double Gameweek players, as well as who to transfer in. When it comes to transfer plans FPL managers will tend to target the seven Double Gameweek teams as they potentially have double the minutes. However, there are a number of Premier League teams with great form and just one fixture whose assets should not be overlooked.

Spurs

Spurs are in a fantastic run of form having won all of their last four Premier League games. Indeed, in the last seven matches Spurs have scored 25 Premier League goals, more than any other team. Since then turn of the calendar year Spurs have scored 40 goals.

The injury to Matt Doherty likely means that Emerson Royal will get a start in the Spurs defence. The wing back has back to back returns in the Premier League, including a goal against Newcastle in Gameweek 31.

However, it is likely the three forward players that FPL managers should be targeting.

Indeed, since the arrival of Kulusevski in January there has been a dramatic improvement in the output of all of the Spurs forward line.

Spurs only have one fixture in Gameweek 33 against Brighton. The North London side have won their last three Premier League home matches, scoring 13 goals in those matches. Spurs have also won nine, drawn one of their last 12 matches against Brighton in all competitions. including a 0-2 victory away at the Amex in Gameweek 29. Kulusevski produced an assist in this fixture, whilst Kane got a goal and two bonus points.

Kane has a fantastic record against Brighton. He has returned in five of his seven Premier League meetings with the Seagull’s and averages 6.14 points per match against them.

The Spurs forward also has seven double digit hauls so far this season, five of these have come since Gameweek 26. This makes him a great option for Gameweek 33. If FPL managers are not invested in more than one of the Spurs attackers, going into Gameweek 33 they make the perfect targets.

Man City

Manchester City assets are starting to really show their strength in FPL. A number of FPL managers sold Cancelo a few Gameweeks ago. With four returns in his last five Premier League matches FPL managers without the City defender should be prioritising his return to their squads.

However, it is not just Cancelo who makes Man City one of the best single Gameweek teams to target ahead of the deadline. Kevin De Bruyne is back to full strength and highlighting his appeal to FPL managers.

Over the last four Gameweeks De Bruyne has returned 41 FPL points, including two double digit hauls and nine points against Liverpool. De Bruyne has returned in both of his previous two home fixtures against Gameweek 33 opponents Brighton, averaging 9.50 points per match.

Indeed, in the last for matches only Son and Kane have more attacking returns than KDB.

Both Cancelo and De Bruyne should be key targets for FPL managers, even with just one fixture in Gameweek 33. Indeed, many of the FPL managers planning to Free Hit in Gameweek 33, like FPL Goat, are targeting these two City men.

Brentford

Christian Eriksen arrived at Brentford during the transfer window and started his first Premier League game for the club in Gameweek 28. Since then Brentford have won four of the last five matches in the League, indeed the game they lost was to Leicester when Eriksen was out with Covid.

Eriksen has one goal and one assist so far and is owned by just 1.2% of the game. In the same period Ivan Toney has found the form that all FPL managers were hoping for when he first arrived in the league. Toney has three double digit hauls in the last five matches and has returned in four of Brentford’s last five in the competition. Likewise Bryan Mbeumo has returned in the last three Premier League fixtures for Brentford, returning 27 FPL points in that time.

The Brentford trio are priced between £5.2 and £6.8m and therefore offer exceptional value. Brentford face Watford in Gameweek 33. The Hornet’s have lost four of their last five matches in the league, in that period conceding 23 goals.

Watford have also lost their last nine matches at Vicarage Road in the Premier League, this bodes well for the Brentford attackers. Brentford also won the reverse of this fixture earlier in the season.

Liverpool

Liverpool need to win every game between now and the end of the season and hope that Man City drop points if they are to win the League.

With the exception of Gameweek 32’s game against Man City, Liverpool have won every match since Gameweek 22. On paper Liverpool have a difficult game in Gameweek 33 against Man United. United have lost both of their last two matches and they have kept just one clean sheet since Gameweek 26. That clean sheet was against Watford who are third bottom for goals scored in the same period. This bodes well for the Liverpool attack.

Salah has returned in three of his last four Premier League meetings with Gameweek 33 opponents Manchester United. Including an incredible 24 points in the reverse of this fixture earlier on in the season. Since the 2019/20 season Salah averages 10.25 points per match against the Red Devils.

Like Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold has a fantastic record against Man United. The wing back has returned in four of his five Premier League fixtures against the Manchester side. Alexander-Arnold averages 7.40 points per match, and returned 10 points in the reverse of this fixture earlier on in the season.

Diogo Jota is also in a good run of form having returned in his last three Premier League matches. In that period he has returned 27 FPL points, substantially more than any other Liverpool player. Liverpool might be one of the single Gameweek teams in Gameweek 33 however they offer good investment options.

Overall

Single Gameweek players should not be overlooked by FPL managers. There are a number of FPL players with great single Gameweek fixtures who have the potential to return well for their FPL managers. With the likes pf Spurs, Man City, Brentford and Liverpool they also have good fixtures after Gameweek 33 and therefore make good long term picks too.
