Underachievers GW33: Which players are due an FPL goal?

Last modified date

Using recent underlying stats from the Fantasy Football Scout, we assess which players are due an FPL goal.

Recent FPL goals

Some forwards are in great form over their last four matches:

6 GOALS – Son Heung-min

4 GOALS – Kevin De Bruyne

3 GOALS – Cristiano Ronaldo, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Diogo Jota, Ivan Toney, Wilfried Zaha

However, others are shooting and getting in the right places without having either luck or end product.

So let’s look at the players who have recorded at least nine shots, an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.00 and an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 1.20 over their last four matches, yet no more than one goal.

Due an FPL goal

Two of last week’s names managed to get on the scoresheet – Raphinha and Sadio Mane. Using data from Fantasy Football Scout’s Members Area, here are this week’s underachievers.

Of these eight names, both Bruno Fernandes and Neal Maupay play twice in Double Gameweek 33. Aston Villa pair Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins are amongst those not participating at all.

Surprisingly, Harry Kane is included. His ownership has skyrocketed in recent weeks thanks to an incredible 15 goal involvements from nine matches. Five double-digit hauls have arrived in this period, yet he has only scored once in his last four outings. Against both West Ham and Aston Villa, he produced a hat-trick of assists. If this is an underachieving Harry Kane, it’s scary to think what his overachieving would look like.

Man United have an enticing home clash with Norwich before a trip to Liverpool. Instinctively, FPL managers want coverage of the first one but their team has regularly let the community down this season. Fernandes is their most reliable player but comes in at an expensive £11.6m.

Maupay’s penalty miss from Gameweek 31 led to him being benched against Arsenal on Saturday.

Like last time, Mohamed Salah shows up on this list, although he was able to assist Sadio Mane against Man City. Gabriel Jesus netted at the other end and did enough to meet this criteria, although it was his first league start since New Year’s Day.

Finally, Bryan Mbeumo is starting to deliver on the early-season promise that saw him reach 400,000 teams. Out-of-position, many eventually gave up on him after a series of non-returns that deceived his underlying stats. However, one goal, four assists and 27 points have arrived throughout his last three matches. His penalty-area shots (12) and touches (29) are higher than the other names on this list.
