Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 31?

Last modified date

The Gameweek deadline is near but there is still much community debate regarding the FPL captain. So here is some content to help you decide.

FPL captain

Even though time is running out to submit your Gameweek 31 teams, the FPL community is still split over captaincy.

Fantasy Football Pundits have collected the main options into a poll. So, using some of the great FPL captaincy content that’s out there, here are the leading candidates.

Mohamed Salah

Leader in the poll is Liverpool’s Mo Salah, who faces Watford at home. He is also ahead in a similar vote for Fantasy Football Geek.

Fresh from World Cup qualification heartbreak with Egypt, Salah returns to Merseyside determined to put Watford to the sword. He loves facing the Hornets, averaging almost 12 points per 90 minutes against them during seven meetings. Four double-digit hauls have arrived, including 13 points in Gameweek 8 and a phenomenal 29 points in the 2017/18 season – four goals and an assist in the 5-0 win.

Although some key Liverpool players may be rotated ahead of a brutal, season-defining April, don’t expect Salah to be one of them. The priority for Jurgen Klopp remains the Premier League title and there is no room for error.

Harry Kane

The second strong option for many is in-form Harry Kane. His last four appearances against Newcastle include scores of 12, 13 and 12. Seven goals, four assists and 12 bonus points have arrived in his last seven league matches. As revealed on this week’s Official FPL podcast, Sam Bonfield will be trusting Kane with her armband.

In fact, Fantasy Football Fix have discovered an interesting stat about Kane’s FPL rejuvenation.

Wout Weghorst

A different route would be to simply follow the quantity of matches, even if that route is Burnley. The Clarets and Everton play twice in Gameweek 31 so it can’t possibly backfire, right?

That’s what 676,000 managers thought ahead of Gameweek 27, where Burnley played twice. Cue Weghorst blanking in both matches and picking up a yellow card, so he didn’t even reach four appearance points.
