FPL Gossip 24th March 2022: Nunez, Pogba and a second Liverpool Trent

Last modified date

A look at the latest rumours and bits of gossip that the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community is talking about.

FPL Gossip

Arsenal linked with Darwin Nunez

Having let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave in January and seemingly set up Alexandre Lacazette for a summer departure, Arsenal have been linked with prolific Benfica forward Darwin Nunez. With Mikel Arteta trusted to continue his squad overhaul, a marquee number nine is high priority.

The Gunners tried for Dusan Vlahovic in January but the Serbian instead opted for a big money switch to Juventus. Links continue with names like Alexander Isak and Jonathan David but Nunez is the new candidate.

The Uruguayan has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season and comes with a £50-60 million price tag. A rumoured move to Newcastle did not materialise in January.

Should Arsenal bag an elite striker this summer, it will add to the FPL potential of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli.

Could Paul Pogba really sign for Newcastle?

Alongside the major European clubs linked with a Paul Pogba free transfer are Premier League duo Newcastle and Aston Villa. Mail Online believes the intent is serious, especially from the Magpies. Their new ownership will apparently spend modestly over the summer, on a budget below their £90m of January. There is no mention of high-profile free transfers though, where there will be many.

Another Trent set to join Liverpool

Not content with one Trent that has a double-barrelled surname, Liverpool look likely to sign 15-year-old Irish winger Trent Kone-Doherty from Derry.

It would be nice to think his parents are FPL-mad. With a name that also pays tribute to Arouna Kone and Matt Doherty, he feels destined to grace the Premier League one day. Despite spending time training with Celtic, Liverpool have pushed to agree a six-figure compensation fee.
