Best differentials for Double Gameweek 29

Last modified date

With three key teams in Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool playing twice in Double Gameweek 29 there will be some popular assets. However, within those clubs as well as at Newcastle, Everton and Brighton there are some good differential picks. We assess the best under 10% differentials for Double Gameweek 29.

Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the two most highly owned assets in the game. Owned by 61.5% and 46.1% of managers respectively they are the inverse of differentials. Like Alexander-Arnold and Salah there are a number of heavily back picks for the Gameweek who are owned by over 10% of the game:

  • Bukayo Saka – 23.1%
  • Son Heung-min – 20.9%
  • Aaron Ramsdale – 20.4%
  • Diogo Jota – 18.8%
  • Virgil Van Dijk – 18.5%
  • Robert Sanchez – 16.7%
  • Harry Kane – 16.3%
  • Ben White – 13.1%
  • Allan Saint-Maximin – 12.8%
  • Kieran Tierney – 12.2%
  • Emile Smith-Rowe – 12.0%
  • Sergio Reguilon – 10.7%
  • Konstantinos Tsimikas – 10.7%

With these players in so many FPL teams picking out the right differentials could be the perfect opportunity to achieve a green arrow.

Dejan Kulusevski – Spurs – 3.8%

Kulusevski has started the last four Premier League matches for Spurs since arriving in North London during the January transfer window. In those four matches he has registered 31 FPL points. His four assists and two goals leaves him top across the Spurs team for attacking returns in the period, level with Kane.

Kulusevski is averaging an FPL point every 11.2minutes, more regularly than more expensive teammate Son. This average points per match is 7.8 which is third across the Spurs team since Gameweek 26 with only Kane and Doherty returning more.

At just 3.8% owned Kulusevski looks a fantastic option, especially as he seems to have solidified his position in the starting XI. At just £6.1m he is also a cheap way in to the Spurs attack, and makes the attacking double-up easier to achieve than owning Kane and Son.

Andy Robertson – Liverpool – 7.3%

There haven’t been many FPL season where Andy Robertson could have been described as a differential. However at just 7.3% owned he could be a great option for managers looking to add another Liverpool player to their team. Robertson has returned in all of his last seven appearances in the Premier League, totalling 58 points.

Robertson is second in the ICT index for defenders for creativity, only beaten by Alexander-Arnold. Since Gameweek 22 Robertson has supplied more crosses than any other defender with 49. He is also top for chances created with 17. Robertson’s attacking threat gives him the opportunity to return points at both ends of the pitch and therefore his potential to achieve over the two Gameweek 29 fixtures is great.

Fabian Schar – Newcastle – 1.8%

There was a quiet discussion about Fabian Schar across the FPL Community ahead of the Gameweek 28 deadline. As a result many FPL managers have been left wishing that they had paid more attention and invested in the Newcastle defender.

With one game still to play in Gameweek 28 Schar has already returned 10 FPL points for his managers. This comes on the back of a 12 point haul in Gameweek 27 too. Since Gameweek 25 Schar has had five attempts on goal, four of them from inside the box.

In Gameweek 29 Newcastle face Everton and Chelsea. Everton have conceded 12 goals in the last six Gamweeks, only Leeds, Watford and Norwich have conceded more, this bodes well for attacking potential. Everton have also scored just four goals in that period, the worst in the division, increasing the likelihood or a Newcastle clean sheet.

The Chelsea game will be more challenging for Schar in terms of returns, however across the course of the Double Gameweek he still looks a good investment – especially for managers playing a Free Hit in Gameweek 30.

Anthony Gordon – Everton – 1.7%

Everton’s 5-0 defeat away at Spurs in Gameweek 28 has made many FPL managers write the Toffee’s off. However, at just £4.5m Anthony Gordon could be the exception to the rule. Manager Frank Lampard singled out the midfielder as the only positive in their defeat.

“The important thing is I lead it and positivity stays – not the stupid positivity, there is nothing positive about tonight other than Anthony Gordon and a couple of performances of credit where people didn’t give up.”

Gordon has started just 14 games this season, however since Lampard took over at Goodison Gordon has found favour. His set piece threat increases his appeal.

Whilst Gordon might not be the most exciting pick for Double Gameweek 29 he is a fantastic enabler. At £4.5m he could be held until the end of the season and offers good value for money. Everton have two home matches in Gameweek 29 and both of these will be seen as must win as they are sitting just one point above the relegation zone. If Everton manage to get something from their fixtures Gordon looks set to be part of that.

Matt Doherty – Spurs – 1.3%

The most differential of all of our picks is Spurs’ Matt Doherty. Doherty has returned 32 points in the last two Gameweeks and has attracted much praise from manager Antonio Conte. Conte’s wingback system is perfect for exploiting the best part of Doherty’s game, his attacking play. If Conte continues to deploy this system against Brighton and Manchester United in Gameweek 29 Doherty could perform well.

In the last two Gameweeks Doherty has received 63 passes in the opponents half, only three defenders have had more.

Doherty has created six chances for his teammates in the last two Gameweeks, the most amongst the defenders. Two of the chances he created were both big chances, again the most of any defender.

At £4.7m Doherty is a great budget enabler and a good route in to a doubling player who also plays in Gameweek 30. Managers should be cautious that Doherty does have Emerson Royal waiting in the wings to take his spot in the starting XI. There could be some rotation depending on the system that Spurs play this season, however with his recent performances he looks likely to start in Gameweek 29.
