Best picks from Everton for Double Gameweek 29

Last modified date

Everton play twice in Double Gameweek 29. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Wolves and Newcastle.

The scary thing for Everton fans is that last night’s 5-0 defeat at Tottenham could have been much worse. Son Heung-min missed a couple of early chances, before Spurs backed off once the fifth goal came in the 55th minute. As a result, Everton’s freefall has continued and they have now lost seven of eight league games.

No team has been in the English top flight for more seasons than the Toffees’ 119, having continuously been at the top table since 1954. However, they sit just one place and one point above the relegation zone, with Frank Lampard’s arrival failing to bring a new manager bounce. This pair of Double Gameweek 29 games – at home to Wolves and Newcastle – are vitally important to their survival plans. Yet FPL managers may opt to completely stay away from their assets.

Underlying Stats

Despite conceding 17 goals in their last eight matches, Everton rank well for chances conceded. They’ve allowed the ninth-fewest opposition shots, yet a high proportion of these are on target.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in and out of the side since returning from injury, still without a goal. Plus, Demarai Gray has had both an injury and an illness. As Richarlison is without a goal in six matches, the only competent Everton attacking asset in recent times has been £4.5m midfielder Anthony Gordon.

The local 21-year-old leads the way in most shots, assists and expected goal involvement (xGI) statistics, partly because Lampard has trusted him to start every league match since his arrival. Assuming he keeps his place ahead of Gray and Andros Townsend, the youngster could be the optimum way for managers to get Everton coverage without risking much budget.

Ownership for Double Gameweek

Overall, only Gray sneaks over 5% ownership and his recent problems hint that these are mostly inactive teams. One clean sheet from 14 matches won’t bring any appeal to defenders Michael Keane (£4.7m) or Mason Holgate (£4.2m), although some may like the differential appeal of previously strong FPL strikers Calvert-Lewin (3.0%) and Richarlison (4.7%).

Everton ownership basically does not exist within the top 10k.

Community Chatter – Best Picks

FPL Penguin sees Gordon as a cheap squad filler who is perfect for a Gameweek 29 Bench Boost.

However, many like Harry will simply see this double as two opportunities to own Everton-facing assets.
