Strong Fixtures

Wolves

Amongst the six sides with a Double Gameweek 28, Wolves are the only ones to play twice at home and have pleasing opponents in Crystal Palace and Watford. Whilst their defensive standards have slipped since the run of six clean sheets in eight matches throughout Gameweeks 12-21, facing the low-scoring Watford should still give optimism to owners of Conor Coady, Josa Sa and Max Kilman.

However, the benching of Raul Jimenez will concern the 500,000 managers that bought him before Double Gameweek 26. The press conference of Bruno Lage will hopefully give more insight into whether this was a one-off or something more.

Aston Villa

Similarly, there are a nice-looking pair of fixtures for Aston Villa. Although they can’t take Southampton lightly, considering the Saints have one defeat in ten matches, a trip to Leeds will excite owners of Philippe Coutinho, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins. Their recent 3-3 draw kicked off a horrific February for Leeds that broke records for goals conceded and led to Sunday’s sad departure of Marcelo Bielsa.

Three clean sheets have arrived from their last five away games, so those with Lucas Digne and Tyrone Mings will almost certainly be starting their Villa defender.

Chelsea

Furthermore, there could be an extra match added to this Double Gameweek. Norwich announced on their website that they will host Chelsea next Thursday at 7:30pm, should either side progress in this week’s FA Cup Fifth Round.

This means managers should prepare for the scenario where Chelsea eliminate Luton Town and therefore have a double against Burnley (a) and Norwich (a). It’s quite easy to forget Chelsea exist in FPL, having only played in one of the past four Gameweeks, but their two successive league clean sheets were joined by a 0-0 against Liverpool in Sunday’s EFL Cup final.

It puts Antonio Rudiger and the returning Reece James back on the FPL radar, with many managers likely to also look at midfielders Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech. In particular Ziyech – scorer in each of their last three league matches.
