Best picks from Leeds for Double Gameweek 28

Last modified date

Leeds play twice in Double Gameweek 28. So let’s assess their best FPL options ahead of matches against Leicester and Aston Villa.

As a result of a truly horrible February, Head Coach Marcelo Bielsa left his position on Sunday. Rumoured replacement Jesse Marsch had already been linked with the role for this summer, in case Bielsa chose to walk away, so he may already have researched the squad that will be inherited.

They have conceded a stunning 20 goals from their last five matches, the most a side has ever shipped in a single Premier League month – and it’s the year’s shortest month!

Underlying Stats

Their poor defence has been an issue all season. Not only have they conceded a league-high 60 goals but they have allowed the most shots on target, the second-most goal attempts and the second-most expected goals conceded (xGC).

Going forward offers more promise. Their 355 shots ranks sixth amongst the league, which hasn’t slowed down over the last six matches, where they come seventh. So their recent 3-3 draw with Aston Villa typifies what this Leeds United are – could their Double Gameweek 28 clash provide similar?

First opponent Leicester features in the above graphic, as they themselves have quite a leaky backline. Only two clean sheets have been kept since the opening weekend so, whilst Leeds defenders should be nowhere near FPL managers’ thoughts, there is definitely potential for some attacking coverage.

Ownership for Double Gameweek

Therefore eyes go straight onto Raphinha. He is the only Leeds player with a higher ownership than the 3.1% of Stuart Dallas. On nine goals this season – one of which came against Leicester in Gameweek 11 – just four players have taken more shots than Raphinha this season and only Bruno Fernandes and Trent Alexander-Arnold have created more chances than his 49. Furthermore, he has hit the woodwork four times

He follows this Double Gameweek with a home clash against Norwich, before taking part in one of only three confirmed matches for Gameweek 30 so far. Their talisman and superstar, Raphinha’s ownership will shoot up over the coming week.

Beyond this, it’s hard to say who the new head coach will opt for out of Daniel James, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and cheap striker Joe Gelhardt. Only 6.3% of FPL managers own a Leeds goalkeeper or defender, where many of these have likely been inactive for a while.
