FPL Gossip 17th February: Diogo Jota ankle injury

Last modified date

A look at the latest rumours and bits of gossip that are getting the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community talking.

FPL GOSSIP

Jota replaced at half-time with “twisted ankle” in Milan

Days away from Liverpool’s juicy Double Gameweek 26, a curveball has been thrown with the half-time withdrawal of Diogo Jota against Inter Milan. Owned by 88% of the top 10k and 40% overall, he has become an essential FPL asset over recent months. Ahead of home games against Norwich and Leeds, Jota had to be replaced at the break and Jurgen Klopp confirmed it wasn’t a tactical decision.

“Diogo had to go off with something around the ankle ligament, we will see – we don’t know exactly. He could play on (until the break), obviously, maybe it’s a good sign. But at half-time, the ankle was swollen and we had to change. Twisted ankle, it was swollen. So that’s not a good sign but we have to see. We’ll check it as early as possible tomorrow but we need further assessment.”

FPL managers will be desperate to hear an update in Klopp’s pre-match press conference, as they come to terms with having to switch transfer plans. Does a different Liverpool player come onto the radar? Would a downgrade open up other opportunities? Will managers now take a four-point hit?

There is always a twist to the tale in FPL.

Mason Mount also has ankle injury, out for two weeks

It is being reported that Chelsea’s Mason Mount will miss a minimum of two weeks because of his own ankle injury, suffered during Saturday’s Club World Cup final. He was replaced after 31 minutes and left the stadium on crutches, meaning he will be in a battle to be fit for February 27’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. The midfielder will miss the Blues’ league game with Crystal Palace and Champions League first leg with Lille.
