Fantasy5 FFS Challenge: FPL Marc’s Week 7 Reveal

Last modified date

In mid-November, Fantasy Football Scout unveiled a nine-week battle that pits ten staff members and Pro Pundit experts against each other in Fantasy5. To determine who truly has the best eye for a Fantasy player, the FFS Challenge mini-league will take place between Gameweeks 12 and 20.

A small prize is up for grabs but, more importantly, so is bragging rights. The challenge requires picking a player from each of the week’s five selected matches who you think will exceed their assigned ‘points target’ (par score). The more players that do so, the better.

Get yourself involved here at Fantasy5 for a chance to win a potential £10,000 prize. It is free and very simple to play, following the exact same scoring system as FPL, just without the bonus points. Full terms and conditions are here.

For each round, Fantasy Football Community will have an in-depth team reveal from one participant.

Week 7: FPL Marc

  • Aston Villa v Burnley
  • Leeds v Arsenal
  • Wolves v Chelsea
  • Newcastle v Man City
  • Tottenham v Liverpool

You’ll be shocked to know that I am STILL without any correct selections in this challenge and find it bewildering that Tom is on seven points. I just don’t it – I follow logic. Logic fails. Then everyone else has magically picked Jordan Ayew or Jarrad Branthwaite…. probably.

At least this time, unlike recent other weeks, I wasn’t even close. Four picks only scored two points, with the other coming from the postponed Burnley v Watford clash.

Going without Ollie Watkins has been an FPL regret of mine, having predicted a few weeks ago that he’d be the next trend. He scored and assisted against Norwich, as I had to watch others be joyful while I stared longingly through the window. But enough about the carol singers. Watkins is the prime Aston Villa candidate and I’m surprised his points target is just 6.5.

Leeds vs Arsenal is trickier to pick from. Alexandre Lacazette has burnt me in recent weeks and I’m not sure if Kieran Tierney is rotation-proof considering he’s started the last three. Bukayo Saka looked lively against West Ham and I enjoy watching him play. Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger – like last time – is just a matter of not knowing which attacking team mate to back, combined with their high points targets. At 6.5, I can see a clean sheet and potential for Rudiger to either maraud forward or attack a set piece.

I was tempted to follow the midweek tactics of several mini-league rivals and purely pick those with 4.5 or 5.5 targets, hoping for a random assist. This worked with Ruben Neves. That’s why I’ve backed Jonjo Shelvey for Newcastle against Man City. The Magpies’ problem isn’t scoring goals and, as seen on Thursday night, Shelvey provides long-range shots alongside set piece duties. I feel the Man City assets are overpriced here. For Liverpool, Roberto Firmino has a good record against Spurs and this could be his first start for a while.

Good luck everyone!
