Best Wildcard Picks
International breaks are a popular moment for managers to play their wildcards. We look at who is a popular pick for those with their chip active ahead of the Gameweek 12 deadline.
Goalkeepers
Ramsdale
Arsenal’s Ramsdale was one of the leagues most in form Goalkeepers ahead of the International Break. With 17 points in the last two Gameweeks he has returned two clean sheets, three bonus points and two save points in that period.
Arsenal’s favourable fixture run continues after the Liverpool game in Gameweek 12 and therefore managers who haven’t yet joined the Ramsdale bandwagon still have time to do so.
Guaita
The Crystal Palace shot stopper will cost FPL managers just £4.4m and with back to back clean sheets in his last two matches he looks a great option.
The Crystal Palace fixtures are also excellent. With just red match against Manchester United in Gameweek 15 all the way until Gameweek 21 Guaita is a goalkeeper you can invest in for the next 9 Gameweeks and potentially beyond.
Defenders
Reguilon and Royal
Since the arrival of Antonio Conte the FPL community has been awash with chatter about the Spurs wingbacks. Both Reguilon and Royal played in increasingly attacking positions during Conte’s first matches in charge and kept a clean sheet in Gameweek 11.
Cash
In the 2020/21 season the Aston Villa defence were a go to for FPL managers, indeed many of us were doubled up on the Villain’s defence. However, the 2021
Cancelo and James
Cancelo and James have been popular FPL assets in the last few weeks and the underlying stats speak for themselves. Wildcarders would be wise to include them both in their 15 man squads.
Alexander-Arnold
A wildcard squad for the rest of the calendar year wouldn’t look right without Trent Alexander-Arnold. With four double digit hauls this season both hiss defensive returns, his attacking threat and his set piece duty make him a fantastic option.
Midfielders
Mount
Mason Mount has been a difficult own in FPL so far this season as a result of injuries mostly. However, with a 24 point haul in Gameweek 9 he is someone that wildcards shouldn’t over look. Following the International Break Chelsea face Leicester, Manchester United and Watford in the next three, three of the worst defence in the league currently. Meanwhile Mounts underlying stats look promising.
Bowen, Trossard and Silva
Finding the right differentials in the midfield will be key to a successful wildcard, on the FPLDaily show Ian talk us through why these three could be the differentials to go for.
Son
Son has registered 24 goal attempts so far this season, much lower than we saw from the South Korean captain last season by Gameweek 11. However, the arrival of the new manager as well as the fixture swing for Spurs makes Son a attractive FPL option. Son is fourth for big chances amongst midfielders so far and so this should offer positive encouragement to invest.
Salah
A wildcard without Salah? Definitely not!
With returns in 10 of the 11 Gameweeks so far this season, Salah is in fantastic form and his ownership has grown to over 71%. Salah should be the first name FPL managers put into their wildcards over this International Break – if he wasn’t already there before.
Foden
Since his return from injury Foden has been ever present in Pep’s starting XI. His positioning as a false 9 makes him an excellent option for managers playing their wildcard chips.
Forwards
Wilson
Newcastle have had a difficult start to the season so far, however the arrival of the new owners and subsequently new manager Eddie Howe the Magpie’s assets are back on the FPL radar. Wilson has returned in 4 of the 7 games he has played in so far this season.
Watkins
Ollie Watkins was an FPL favourite last season, however this season he is still a huge differential owned by just 2.2% of managers.
Watkins has returned in three of the last five Gameweeks and under his new manager could lead the new manager bounce charge.
Antonio
Michail Antonio has had a fantastic start to the season and remains the top scoring forward in the game. Whilst his form his dipped a little in recent weeks he still makes a really attractive FPL option as shown in our article (linked below) on the forwards in the game so far.
Kane
FPL managers and Spurs fans alike haven’t seen the best of Harry Kane so far this season. However in the last four Gameweeks Kane has received 48 passes in the final third. With the run of fixtures that Spurs have and with increased time under new manager Conte, wildcarding managers should consider taking a chance on us seeing the return of the best of Kane over the next few Gameweeks.
